WE OUT GROW OUR HEROS.
Hero’s make a us stretch, grow, follow blindly down a path till our eye adjust and we can see the path ourselves….
Great hero’s/leaders do explode the unknown chaos for a path forward…
A great leader tho, is teaching the followers to lead themselves….not follow forever…
There can be whole volumes on correct leadership… dictators, how do they keep people under their control… do people Like this?
Lead for the greater good…
A belief of subordinates…till they SEE the cracks and flaws of human nature.. that pesky thing…human nature.
I wonder at the dynamics of working with a Golden Boy, Alpha Male, Leader of his generation….. A massive magnetism, almost cult religious group forms from this seed nucleus.
And the cycle begins…..
Good work is done, the energy of 3 to 5 put their entire lives into the beliefs of the leader.
Then like kids and their parents… the kids grow up, become equal to the great leader, the parent… and the kids leave.
The group explodes..
Think the Beetles breaking up.
Communes that break up, one lead by a great leader
It is JUST the nature of Humans to grow….the leader breaks open the path, the group follows. Observes, the mystery of the path breaker is SEEN, and the followers become their own path makers..
It is kind of sad, to see the great leader lose his followers…
Is this always true?
Sometimes in academics, you spin off great students, … they ARE your success, if they spin off and grow their own.
Maybe THAT is the model…not captivating, dominating your cult followers..
A great cult leader is just the catalyst to followers, not a dogmatic parent…
Such magic….there IS a right and wrong way to teach….to lead.
Not to need followers, but to encourage growth of your students…
I cannot emphasis this enough. YOU have to make YOUR house as beautiful, flexible, right for YOU…. The greatest architect can have his opinion… but it is NOT necessarily right or better than yours….
However…if working with a GREAT architcta =, like AHEARN, with a body of work you can SEE… if YOU like that style, it is a tremendous shortcut, and even economical in time and money to use him… PAY…you are paying for years of work, years of local knowledge, and then have an historical house, with his seal.
THAT is worth it IF you like his style… He would/should fold in YOUR peculiar ideas, memories needs to tailor it for you and your family..
But, only 1 to 10% of people can hire great AIA like him…
the other 90% might have to draw out your own house…copying ideas you see of great architects, evolving your ideas with changes to your designs…and adding design ideas from your good memories of your past…. or places you have visited.
I never understood why CA was so marginalized….
He authentically cared about beauty, and humans, and wanted to design for them.
His opposite found his creative joy in
Abstractions writ large
The shock of scale and contrast
The sensationalism and spectacle fo the new and the bizarrely transfigured.
A totemic architecture of novelty
People sought ever more thrilling forms
New assemblies
Alien geometries
All permutation of the same limited industrial vocabulary.
The deconstructivists offered this world a highly entertaining new metallic expression.
