I am mixing in the viner of the outside of a house, the skin, with the core of the house… this is where the rules of Alexander guide you, the core stuff…sure, care, and good taste replicate so many of Alexanders rules….but, I don’t mind cheating by following his rules, or letting these rules guide me from mistakes, or wasting time experiments down the wrong path. fter all, designing my own house, is a moment…not my life’s work, … THAT belongs to Alexander and Ahearn who I cannot compare or compete with…
This is when I go back to Alexander’s Patterns, to get the structure right…the things that are permanent…paint and colors can be swapped out easily…but structure is forever…
