The architect (Duncan Candler) in 1925, consciously decided to let the house (Skylands) be a part of the land, not dominate it, or ignore it, as so often happens  (put pic of modern house on coast here)

It fits the definition of Beauty, …of fitting into the neighborhood, and where adding more, would detract, and taking anything away, would be noticed…
